As a university student, there are a LOT of potential opportunities to approach women in, say, dining halls, where they sit around, alone or with friends. While they are certainly accessible, I rarely have any idea what to talk to them about. Are there any good focus openers that you could recommend for just such a situation? Also, if the subject at hand shifts to their friends (whom obviously I know nothing about), how can I stay involved in the conversation?

Love the redesign, man. Good pointers there too. There is so much natural material that can come out of a situational opener.

And asking open-ended questions will certainly stretch conversation more, instead of asking for yes/no/one-word answers.
